To: Sucker Punch. Thank you. (A Ghost of Tsushima appreciation post)

There was never any doubt in my mind that I was playing this game. I loved the teaser trailer, I loved the setting, I highly regard the studio for all the fun I had with InFamous. Samurai in feudal Japan? Wait, I can play as an assassin as well? I'm sold immediately. All that was shown did nothing to slow down my hype. It might help that this year is... strange to say the least. But this was an adventure that I was craving ever since it was announced.

Having spent my fair share of time with this game, I can honestly say that there were so many times that I had to stop and stare at what was on my screen, pick up my jaw from the floor and collect my emotions. The game is achingly beautiful. The particle effects, the wind on your back, the birds that guide you, a sense of wonder and whimsy that I haven't felt in a while. I dare say the last time I felt something like this was when I played Skyrim for the first time in a fat PS3.

Sucker Punch sure knows that they made eye candy, so they made sure their photo mode takes full advantage of it (and I so thank you for that). Many times I just took some photos because I could do so easily and for great effect. You can set the mood and tone you want to showcase. Your screenshots will always look amazing, no matter what you do. The sheer variety of landscapes just make you want to see more of the island, you want to find every single hidden spot (well, I wanted to at least) because just around the corner there might be something beautiful waiting for you, and begging for a picture. It's in-game tourism.

I played the game in Japanese with English subtitles. I really thought that was the way to play it. The characters had a lot of characteristics that I've seen on Japanese shows and dramas, which only made it seem more authentic. But I bet the greater recognition Sucker Punch could have is the high praise coming from Japan. That's a higher testament to their dedication, to their art, the respect for the source material.

I said goodbye today to this great adventure because I finished everything I had to do. I will come back later to pick up some flowers, traverse the island and bask in those warm orange sunsets that fill my soul with joy because I want to get all the cool stuff and chill for a while. Thank you, Sucker Punch. This was a hell of a ride.

The Last of Us Part II

I managed to stay clear from any form of spoilers for this game, a feat on itself since I am online most of my day. I stayed clear from reviews just because this was not the kind of game that I needed a second opinion for (and also, mild spoilers could happen, even if just visual ones). After finishing The Last of Us Part II, I allowed myself to see what the fuss was all about and why were people that mad. I see their frustration, but I don't agree with it. Then this video dropped. It perfectly encapsulated what I felt while playing it. Spoiler alert, if you are about to watch it.

Kids react to a GameBoy

Oh boy, this makes me feel old! Not only that, but I'm glad I came from the time buttons were considered normal... I had a similar "problem" with my younger brother when he mocked me for playing Panzer Dragoon Saga stating that the graphics were crap. I challenged him to play the game and he actually enjoyed it. He even said that it wasn't all that bad. And with that I gave him a little perspective. Games don't just "pop" out of the blue. To be where we are today, we had to have different things before. And maybe now things are a bit too easy...

This is funny. And sad. And cute. And sad again. I really worry for my kids one day! :s I hope mine would turn out like that asian kid. He's going places...

Dragon Age: Inquisition

Is it October? I'm so excited for this game... And damn, it looks good... Dragon Age: Inquisition promises action and an open world, with Bioware's quality seal.

It seems that this particular game could have over 40 possible endings. As all things Bioware, they depend on what you choose during gameplay. There's more spells to choose from (over 200) and you can choose your character out of four races, three classes and nine specializations. Yes. I'm really looking forward to this one, as it seems they tackled the limitations of Dragon Age 2. Gameplay video below, fr your entertainment :)

Retro Gaming: Panzer Dragoon Saga

Lately I've been snooping around what I've got at home on my old CDs, burned with a lot of patience, but full of surprising goodies. I've been trough a phase where I was obsessed with emulators. I wanted them all! But the crown jewel was a functional Sega Saturn emulator. It's not the oldest of consoles, but it's the one that still has a spot in my heart. My grandfather gave it to me, as he gave most of the gaming gear I had at the time, but now I really see the value I had in my shelves, the good game I had. Not only good, but rare as well. Who knew this game was that famous?

Panzer Dragoon Saga... Man... Oh, the nostalgia! So many hours I've spent playing this game... This was an epic 4 CD game. 4 CD!! 2 game boxes!! That an the pretty cover art, made me beg for this game. The internet wasn't really like it is today, news of good games were really difficult to come by. I had played its predecessor, Panzer Dragoon: Zwei, but this... this one had to be better, right?

I wasn't mistaken... The graphics, at the time, were impressive. Controlling Edge on the dragon was a must, the battles, awesome. The dragon evolution... fantastic. At the time I didn't really get the story. I was playing with a dictionary right beside me, as I did with other games as well such as Final Fantasy VII. But It was a cool game, and for me that was enough. My brother saw me playing this on the emulator and made fun of the game. He said it was bad, just based on the graphics. 10 year old graphics. Well, I challenged him to play the game. It blew his mind away... And he started to understand that graphics are not everything on a game.

I realised the value that I once had when I tried to collect games for the first time. I was in High School and I was "tired" of emulators. I wanted the consoles, the real deal. Or at least I wanted those that I had, the games I had as a kid. That's when I realised that this particular game could reach 360 dollars easily on eBay. It was a well respected and super rare. It's on the Top 100 All Time best Games on IGN.com (2007) and G4 (2012).

Why don't you try it? If you like the genre, you might actually enjoy it!
