There are gods, then there's Thor

San Diego's Comic Con keeps on giving. This time, at Marvel's panel, another trailer for Thor: Ragnarok was revealed. This trailer is so bonkers, but extremely fun (well, I'm a sucker for Marvel and all kinds of blockbusters...).

Cate Blanchett looks so badass it hurts! The visuals look fantastic as per usual. And oh... Hi, Loki! Long time no see!

Thor: Ragnarok opens October 27 in the UK.

Transformers 4: some makeover you got there!

Transformers 4 won't be out until the 29th June 2014, but there's something to be happy about. This movie won't be a reboot, like Michael Bay previously said, but the bots will have a slight... makeover. The story will be set 4 years from Transformers: Dark of the Moon. The cast includes Mark Wahlberg, as previously stated, plus Jack Reynor and Li Bingbing.

This is the Hound, "one of the Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles from Oshkosh Defense". In the animated series, Hound used his ability to capture and project holographic imagery on a series of dinosaur fossils, which led to the creation of Dinobots named Grimlock, Slag, and Sludge. A sign? Or nothing at all?

Awww! How I've missed Bumblebee! This is his new face! Let's hope the personality stays intact.

Optimus Prime is back too, and in style!

This Chevrolet Corvette Stingray could be anyone... But the plausible options would be Sideswipe or Slingshot. For now, we know the car is in the movie. For which bot, we'll have to wait.

This awesome Buggatti (worth $2.4 million...) is another one of the mystery bots... On Buzzfeed, they speculate it could be Drift or Hot Rod.

Yes, I'm excited. And anxious to see the VFX breakdown on this one...

Finally, a trailer for Thor: The Dark World has arrived! Nice to see Thor, but oh my, Loki does look creepy here! The VFX breakdown of this movie should be a blast!

VFXprotest

Have you seen green profile pictures lately? If you have, you are seeing a protest. As a sign of solidarity to fellow VFX artists, we change the color of our profile page to green.

The company behind the Life of Pi’s stunning visual effects, which made the movie possible, Rhythm & Hues, went bankrupt as the film just passed the billion dollar mark in global ticket sales. The 3D & VFX (visual effects) companies that make the Hollywood blockbuster movies possible, sign on to bad deals typically at a loss, the Hollywood production companies walk away with profits, and artists who dedicate their lives to their craft get short changed on salary, over-time and eventually job security. The green is a form of solidarity and protest for change in our industry.

Rhythm & Hues has worked on several blockbuster movies. Their showreels are living proof that they can do magic, as so many other VFX companies.

At the Oscars, there was a protest, a way of raising awareness to this problem of the industry. Why VFX studios go bankrupt as the film studios are paid billions?
